imagine if you are a salesman and you sell 100 shoes to this client daily , the shoemaker gives you a commision   of ten dollars per shoe . one day the shoemaker finds out you get your clients from  the guy joe down the street and tells you sorry pal but any sales to joe from now on does not count !  but if you sell to jill down the road its ok . so joe comes one day and asks how come i cant buy shoes from you again ?  i have been buyi

forget it if you have a website that is not about 50k visits a day . its actually set up to scam un suspecting website owners . 24 hrs link expiry ??? cmon ! you cant advertise to friends and family only strangers ! and this is all determined by amazon . so you could sell thousands of dollars worth for amazon and NOT make a Penny ! if you dont meet their scam criteria ! coming from the biggest retailer on earth thats a scam from the richest man on the planet . no wonder they are this big !

It doesn’t worth it and in reality you are wasting your time if you put lot of effort in this profession. Firstly let’s go through the terms and condition.

You can definitely go to the site and check the full T&C but here I am briefing you why it doesn’t worth to be Amazon’s marketing partner. And may be it’s a ploy to be “Scam in the making”.

I you posted a link in FB/Twitter/Or you have asked your friends to purchase from that special link and they did, but still you are not eligible.

  1. If they purchase from your link after 24 hours generating the link, You are not eligible for advertising fees.
  2. If they purchase from some different special link at the same time, but same product, then also You are not eligible for advertising fees.
  3. Amazon has some extra Artificial intelligence (AI) which they won’t disclose and according to that AI if they come to know, the product is purchased by you then definitely You are not eligible for advertising fees.!!! haha 🙂
  4. Most importantly the link is valid only for 24 hours and you have to regenerate your link in every 24 hours to make it active again. Otherwise You are not eligible for advertising fees.
  5. You are not eligible for advertising fees. Even if the purchase is genuine and Amazon finds it out that the purchase is under “You are not eligible for advertising fees – section” and amazon will not disclose which algorithm they followed.
  6. You are not eligible for the advt fees if using your generated link some/many purchased happened after 24 hours.
  7. They have numerous reason to not to pay to you. So better avoid this business model and the amount of time you put for Amazon’s traffic. Believe me there are many online digital marketing partners they pay more than Amazon and T&C are mostly transparent and feasible.
  8. There is one positive aspects of it too. Those who have some great sites and daily more than 1 million visitors (traffic) and if out of those 1million only 10% manage to click/buy from that special link generated by you, you may get some amount as Advertising fees. But the question is, “A site which’s traffic is already 10 Lakhs, do they need Amazon affiliated with so many TnC?” There are other digital marketing partners (Sorry I don’t want to promote them) and they can give double/triple of what amazon is going to pay as advt fees.

So according to me I must say it is good business model but only for amazon not for Amazon affiliates.

Thanks for reading.

This is a difficult question to answer. In order for something to be worthwhile doing, you need to compare between the effort and resources you put in, with the returns and benefits you get.

If it is a normal job, you can ask yourself if your pay and benefits commensurate with the work that you actually put in.

However, for something like affiliate marketing the actual returns may not materialize until months or even years down the road. At the beginning, you will be putting in countless hours building, designing, creating content and promoting your blog or website. You will probably see very low or even no returns at all during this period.

On the other hand, if you are successful, you can make thousands or more with very little effort besides adding a little content and doing a little promotion every month. Getting past the initial hurdle is the toughest part.

As for how much can you make as an Amazon Affiliate, it ranges from nothing to five figures a month.

Until April of 2020, Amazon’s affiliate program, called Amazon Associates, was totally worth it.

But in April of this year, citing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Amazon majorly slashed their commission rates down to only 1–3%.

This angered and disenchanted a large portion of long-term dedicated affiliates who saw their earnings cut in half or even worse.

Many of them quit promoting Amazon Associates in protest.

Which leads us to today..

As an Amazon Associate in 2020:

  • You can still earn commissions up to 3% in several popular categories
  • It’s easy to join and free to get started
  • You’ll be able to promote a huge selection of products that you can make commissions on
  • You will still be partnering with one of the most trusted ecommerce platforms in the world
  • They still provide for you a resource center for affiliates to learn how to make more money with Amazon (tips and training for both beginners and advanced affiliates)*

The decision is really all yours. But now you have the facts.

It may not be a scam, but I did have a strange experience with the Affiliate program which resulted in Amazon closing my account for breaching the Operating Agreement.

I was using the program from my WordPress website Another Roadside Attraction

to make a little commission on links to recommended books. Several months ago I was pleasantly suprised to find the income increasing from perhaps £25 a year if I was lucky, to perhaps £25-£30 a month. Then, out of the blue, I get a warning from Amazon saying they will close my account down unless I remove unspecified violations.

Somewhat alarmed I checked the reports on my Associate account, and was surprised to find that I had been receiving commission on products that I’ve never created links to – things like cleaning products, kids clothes etc. I brought this to Amazon’s attention but they didn’t seem interested and have now closed my account.

Given the small amount of revenue I’m not that bothered, but I’m at a loss to understand why anyone would create links for me that pay me commission. What do they get out of it? And why isn’t Amazon concerned?

Total scam & waste of time in my opinion. Especially for consumers! NO products are actually tested by affiliates, “facts” are regurgitated & lifted from other sites. Which makes “reviews” completely biased & unreliable.

If you think that’s a solid business model, then you have another thing coming.

This is not 2012! Consumers are much more savy these days.

As an affiliate, guaranteed your site will be absolutely buried in search results unless it’s super high quality.

Have you tried to search for reviews on a particular item to buy lately? For example- Google search top digital projectors or whatever, results will yield all Amazon Affiliates, who receive money for endorsements!

No it’s not a scam – but it is becoming tougher and tougher to make money with it. Recently they dropped the commission rates

they were paying their affiliates which really hurt some of their earnings.

This is just one of the many issues I found with affiliate marketing, and why I eventually quit to focus on my local lead generation business full time.

Here’s an article I did comparing lead generation with affiliate marketing, and you’ll see some of the issues I have with the affiliate marketing model.

Local lead generation in contrast is really affordable to get into, has very little competition and you are always in full control of your business
